Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish honor society, is now accepting applications from students who wish to join.
Students must have a GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least two advanced Spanish courses to get in.
Since its inception in 2010, over 100 students have been a member of the honor society. Sigma Delta Pi is now the largest honor society within foreign languages in the United States. The Omega Gamma chapter at ACU competes with over 650 other chapters of Sigma Delta Pi across the country.
“This next semester we will celebrate 10 years of Sigma Delta Pi,” Dr. Beatriz Alem-Walker, advisor of Sigma Delta Pi, said.
Members of the Omega Gamma chapter have been nationally recognized the last several years in a row.
“We are very proud of the work of our students,” Walker said.
Sigma Delta Pi spends their time volunteering around the local community, helping in various places around Abilene such as the Grace Museum, Texas parent-teacher association, and ACU Speech Clinic.
“We have even held bilingual story time at the Abilene Public Library,” Walker said.
