The men of Frater Sodalis purchased a personalized video message from Brian Baumgartner to use at the fraternity’s The Office-themed rush.
Baumgartner, who plays Kevin Malone on the show, is active on Cameo – a website that sells video greetings from celebrities. The site hosts actors, comedians, athletes and musicians, many of whom often donate their proceeds to charities.
The Office-themed rush, which took place on Oct. 6, consisted of The Office trivia, decorations and episodes of the show itself. Brady Dumas, Brat Dad for Frater Sodalis, explains that the officers came up with the Cameo idea while brainstorming for the themed rush.
“We are grateful that we are able to do this and able to be in person,” Dumas, senior kinesiology major from Abilene said. Dumas is in charge of pledging planning and communication with the office of student life.
DeanAlan Wiginton, sophomore youth ministry major from Austin, attended the rush and was the winner of the trivia contest.
“The rush was awesome, and I love the show so that made it even better. I actually got to dump chili on the Frats president, which was dope,” Wiginton said.
Rushing looks very different this year for all fraternities and sororities, due to various COVID-19 restrictions. On Oct. 12, a two-week suspension of all rushing and pledging activities was announced from the Office of the President.
