ACU welcomed Larry Musick (’84) as its new director of Alumni Relations on Monday. Musick recently moved with his family from Tennessee, where he was the senior director of marketing at Lipscomb University, a Christian university in Nashville.
“We are very excited to be working with Mr. Musick,” said Samantha Adkins, coordinator of Alumni Programs. “He has a background in marketing and public relations, and we are looking forward to hearing his ideas.”
Musick will be in charge of University Events and Alumni Relations. He will be responsible for keeping in contact with ACU’s alumni and acting as their voice for the university, and he will be traveling and setting up events, as he keeps ACU connected with its alumni.
“When I was a student worker, I was inspired by the work and commitment of the Alumni Department and I made a personal promise to myself to take advantage of the opportunity if a directory position was ever available,” Musick said.
Musick and his wife Kathy have two children: Ashley, junior social work major from Nashville, Tenn., and Jeff, a high school senior.
Musick plans to begin his new position by focusing on two concepts for the university: creating a social media network for alumni and exploring and organizing mission trips for alumni to travel together and serve in the name of the Lord, which is the ACU heritage and common bond among the ACU community, he said.
While attending ACU, Musick was involved in Sing Song, the Big Purple, planning Homecoming events and volunteering and working in the Alumni Relations’ office for two years. Musick also was a member and officer of the men’s social club Gamma Sigma Phi and the Student Alumni Association.
“Working with [Student Alumni Association] enabled me to witness firsthand what alumni mean to the university and what their expectations are,” Musick said. “I would like to organize a group similar to the [Student Alumni Association] in the future.”
Musick replaced Amber Peck as director of Alumni Relations so she could have more free time to raise her 2-year-old son. Betsy Craig handled the responsibilities as director during the transition.
Musick graduated from ACU with a bachelor’s degree in communication and also is working toward his master’s degree in conflict management, according to a press release issued by the Public Relations office. Before working at Lipscomb, Musick worked with Dale Supply Company and Manpower, two Fortune 500 companies in Nashville.
