The ACU football program inked 15 players to letters of intent Wednesday, indicating their intention to play for the Wildcats beginning in Fall 2010.
Thirteen of the 15 commitments are high school seniors, all from the state of Texas.
“We are very pleased with this group of guys; we think they have a lot of talent,” said Head Coach Chris Thomsen.
Many of the incoming freshmen are expected to red-shirt for an ACU squad that will return 17 of its 22 starters from a season ago.
Offensive tackle Logan Hoppenrath from Fort Worth Brewer High could see playing time. Hoppenrath, a 6-foot-4-inch 290-pound tackle, was making visits to Division I schools as recently as this past weekend.
“He was a guy who got some Division I attention, and he was a surprise.” Thomsen said.
Thomsen also announced the signing of two junior college transfers. Junior offensive lineman Dyland Blount and junior running back Josh Morgan have both signed letters of intent with ACU and are currently enrolled as students for the spring semester. Thomsen expects both players to have opportunities to compete for playing time.
Thomsen said he and his coaches plan to continue recruiting several players, looking to add players at positions he thinks still need work.
“Secondary is still a spot we need to look at,” Thomsen said. “I would think that is our top priority heading into the summer.”
