Since disaster struck Haiti a few weeks ago, ACU students have been doing a lot to help with the relief effort. The latest way to get involved is through the REvive fashion show April 23.
The show will feature male and female models from the ACU student body. Models will wear their own clothes and model their personal fashion, in an attempt to obtain the largest profit from ticket sales.
Hailey Clinton, sophomore advertisement and public relations major from Keller, is a model in the show.
“I think just, if nothing else, donating money to the disaster relief is good and knowing that all hundred percent of that goes towards it is a relief,” Clinton said. “We’re not paying for anything else for the actual event.”
The proceeds from this show will go directly to Mobile Medical Disaster Relief, the ministry funded by Dr. David Vanderpool’s practice. MMDR’s Web site says it is “a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Christian humanitarian organization that exists to help fulfill the medical needs of vulnerable and under-served people in the United States and throughout the world.”
Whitney Puckett, junior advertising and public relations major from Melbourne, Fla., serves at the head of a team of students who have organized several of the recent fashion shows that have supported various nonprofit organizations.
“It’s just a bunch of students who want to promote a good cause,” Puckett said. “People who are interested in the arts, fashion, graphic design and public relations are many of their talents.”
In addition to the show, students will raise funds with a photo booth Monday through Friday in the McGlothlin Campus Center. Students will be able to take pictures for $2 that will be used as publicity for the event.
Puckett says she is expecting a good turnout for the event.
“I think this will be a really good opportunity for us to make a difference through just one event,” Puckett said. “It’s one thing to support a cause; it’s another thing to work and support a cause. This is a chance for people to actively get involved and make a difference.”
The show will be at 7:30 p.m. at the ACU Cockerell Galleries. Tickets cost $5 for students and $7 for adults; they will be sold next week in the Campus Center and at the door.
