Five seniors are preparing to debut their artwork for family, friends and guests on Friday.
Brittany Reynolds, Kirsten Haugaard, Stacy Olsen, Kirstyn Young and Tana Emmons will display samples of their work in a show titled “The Show Must Go On.”
Stacy Olsen, 3D art major from San Antonio, is enjoying the planning process and the bonding time with her classmates.
“What I love about the show is being able to collaborate with the other seniors.” Olsen said. “I love the planning and preparing stage. We’re having a lot of fun with it.”
The group met early in the process to discuss ideals and concepts that best depicted their work as a whole. A unanimous decision was made on the title “The Show Must Go On.” The name incorporates the idea that as seniors their lives and art must continue developing and moving forward.
Tana Emmons, interior design major from Kansas City, Mo., said the group drew inspiration from a vintage circus concept similar to the Cirque de Soleil.
“As designers we all came up with different styles, so at first it took as a bit to decide on a solid direction,” Emmons said. “But once we were able to interlace our creative ideas and all envision the same look, we went with it and decided on a fun, whimsical effect.”
The group of seniors is responsible for painting the gallery, supplying food and beverages, music, arranging the pieces and several other aspects. Earlier this week, the group started painting the walls of the gallery and will continue layering coats of paint throughout the week.
Kirstyn Young, 3D art major from Paradise, is anticipating the reaction of family and friends to her variety of works, including bronze sculptures, ceramics, prints and photography.
“I am most excited about having friends, family, and visitors all in the gallery Friday night viewing the art and enjoying the band and refreshments.” Young said. “It will be a wonderful atmosphere.”
“The Show Must Go On” will open Friday at 6 p.m., and will be available for viewing thru the following week.
