While the crowd will be cheering for the clubs and classes that win Saturday night, three charities will cheer for the money they receive.

For the third year, ACU’s social clubs have participated in a program called The Giveback. Each club and class picks a charity to receive $1,000 dollars should they win.

“We are excited to be doing The Giveback for the third time, because it gives a depth of meaning to what we are doing. The real benefit is for the students who participate,” said Tom Craig, director of student activities and productions.

Galaxy, a men’s club on campus, decided to donate any winnings to the Kirk Goodwin Run.

“The 2012 KGR helps provide financial support to those with unforeseen medical expenses and it’s going to support the victims of the ACU bus accident, we wanted to help,” said Graham Sensing, senior marketing major from Abilene and Galaxy president.

Sensing said Sing Song entrants insist on joining in on the heart of helping others and have turned their focus from winning, to serving their community.

Another charity that might benefit from Sing Song is the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Stephanie Krimsky, senior speech language pathology major from Sugarland is a member of Sigma Theta Chi. She said they decided to donate to this foundation, because for reasons close to their hearts.

“Unfortunately, one Siggie lost her mom this fall to breast cancer, and we have lots of Siggies whose moms have been affected by this. So it would mean a lot to us if we were able to donate to this cause,” Krimsky said.

Craig said having the students’ efforts benefit others is an important element to the purpose of Sing Song.
