Intramural football is a game where all sorts of different people can be found. Guy’s teams, girl’s teams and pledge teams are a few examples of the diversity found on this particular gridiron.

“The fellowship is probably my favorite thing about intramurals,” said junior Emily Wallace, Sigma Theta Chi intramural director. The time we get to spend with people we might not have known otherwise.”

The sweet, innocent girls of ACU are suddenly transformed into flag-pulling machines. Guys may be friendly before the game, but during the game they are focused only on demolishing the other team.

“The teams just get so excited. The girls are actually rougher than the guys. I just love to watch them have fun and it’s a thrill that we get to help other people,” said Alpha Kai Omega pledge coach Karson Williams said.

Intramural football is divided into five separate leagues: a men’s recreation league, a women’s recreation league, a men’s championship league, a women’s championship league and a pledge league.

The competition varies from an all-club team to a dorm staff team to a pick-up team. The competition is intense, but the focus is usually on having a good time.

“Just getting to play together and being with the other guys and the competition is a lot of fun,” said Gamma Sigma Phi coordinator Chris Collier.

Players aren’t the only ones who get to have fun. The coaches are able to guide players through the game and experience the series of events from the sidelines.

“It’s just a lot of fun to coach. This is my first year coaching, but it has been a blast so far,” said Alpha Kai coach Esteban Lucio.

The football playoffs begin next week with games on Monday, Tuesday and Thurs-day evenings.
