Bridges to the World, a non-profit Christian organization affiliated with the university, will present a night of food, fine art and music Oct. 15.

Entitled “Chords and Canvas: A Feast of Artistry,” the performance will feature acclaimed pianist Dr. Gustavo Tolosa, assistant professor of music, and artist Rolando Diaz, univeristy alumnus.

Throughout the course of Tolosa’s performance, Diaz will make an impromptu painting interpreting the music.

The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. at the Abilene Civic Center foyer and will cost $20 per person or $200 for a table of 10. Students may call Ext. 6781 for ticket information.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to three Bridges to the World projects, including a clinic and daycare in Honduras and a traveling clinic in El Salvador, said Jack Walker, missions coordinator for Latin America, Bible, missions and ministry.

“I’m happy to do whatever I can with my talent to further the organization,” Diaz said.

Bridges began as a ministry coordinated by Southern Hills Church of Christ and ACU. The ministry sends people to El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico to participate in medical and dental missions, evangelism, education, agricultural projects and micro-business projects that assist small businesses in those countries.

“I think with the music I can help children who live in another place,” Tolosa said.

Diaz has been a full-time artist for the past 10 years. His paintings have been featured in shows in across the country, and most recently he was commissioned to produce an oil painting for recently married entertainer Liza Minelli.

Tolosa graduated from ACU and the prestigious Eastman School of Music. He has performed around the world, including a concert in Rochester, N.Y., commemorating the anniversary of the United Nations.

The J.M. Parker Foundation, Security Title, West Texas Back Clinic and others are underwriting the cost of the evening.
