Seniors to display art in “Arte y Factos”

October 19, 2012 by Kirsten Holman

The senior art show, “Arte y Factos” will take place Friday at 5 p.m. in the Shore Art Gallery located on the ACU campus.

Senior art majors Leah Rama and Jordan Bell, friends since the first week of freshman year, will present their artwork at this event.

“It’s going to be a very diverse range of works,” said Jordan Bell, senior graphic design major from Waco.

Diversity is essential to any artists portfolio. From oil paintings to modern design, these two art students have covered it all.

The title they chose, “Arte y Factos” is actually not a direct translation of “Art and Facts”, but rather a play on the word “artifacts”. Bell said they chose this title because both of their collections incorporate a lot of facts and information that the common person can interpret and understand.

Art majors are required to have an art show their senior year to demonstrate the progress they have made from freshman year, but for these two art majors the show is far more meaningful.

“It is a requirement, but it’s also an honor,” said Leah Rama, senior art major from Abilene.

The senior art show is a chance for both Rama and Bell to show what they are capable of. Bell said he sees it as a right of passage.

This come-and-go event will provide food and art for those who are interested in entertaining their artistic side. Not all of Bell and Rama’s artwork will be on display at this event, only the best and most recent pieces.

After graduation Rama plans on transitioning into fashion design, and wants to combine that with a humanitarian cause. Through her passion for art she wants to be able to help other people.

Bell has some experience already with graphic design and interned for Reebok in Boston last summer. He plans on moving either to New York City or Boston. Bell wants a job that will help him learn more about design and give him practice.

“I owe it all to my professors, friends and family that have stood by me,” said Bell.
