This past weekend, the Wildcats traveled to Southlake to take part in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championship tournament with hopes of defending their titles.

The women’s team has much to celebrate as the 2012-2013 Lone Star Conference Champions.

This was the Wildcats’ 25th title and last in this conference. The team has won all but 6 titles since entering into the LSC.

They faced off against UIW on Friday.

Several singles matches went unfinished and the team won 3 of 3 of the doubles matches.

Micah Hermsdorf, Brittney Reed, Hannah Kelly and Emily Conrad were the matches that did not complete, while Laura Mongin defeated Andi Botha 6-0 straight and Kaysie Hermsdorf took on Malisa Vatanadilok 6-1, 6-2.

The Wildcats advanced to the next round, where they battled Midwestern State for the title.

A few singles matches went unfinished again.

Hermsdorf sisters Micah and Kaysie were the matches that were completed. They had the honor of gaining the team their first points.

The rest of the points came from the doubles matches in which they won 3 of 3.

“I’m glad we have those [matches] out the way,” Hannah Kelly said. “Now only one match stands between us and going to nationals.”

The team will play for the NCAA Division II championship Saturday April 28.

Like the women, the men’s team faced off against the Cardinals Friday as well.

Coming from their win over McMurry, the team was energetic and ready to play.

They served up a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals, winning 3 of 5 singles matches played and 2 of 3 doubles.

LSC Player of the Year Hans Hach matched with Jair Assuncao 6-1, 6-2. Also a with honors, the conference freshman of the year, Nicklas Wingward defeated Mario Jakovljevic 6-1, 6-3 and Alfredo Desiati challenged Tucker Brown 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The match of Borja Cortes against Brandon Davis went unfinished.

The duo of Hach and Guilherme Gesser defeated Aiden DeLeon and Leonard Ivic 8-3. Borja Cortes paired with Jason Proctor also gained team point for their win against UIW’s Assuncao and Brown 9-7.

The team moved on to the next round of the tournament, where they faced Midwestern State Saturday, April 20.

The men’s team matched against Midwestern last month in Wichita Falls.

This time around proved the same fate as the first meeting with the Mustangs. The team was 4-5 yet again, coming out third in the conference.

Hach defeated Luke Joyce 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.  He ended his senior year with a 18-7 overall record.

Wingord took on Colby Meeks 6-4, 6-0 and Cortes who has been battling a wrist injury all season challenged Kacper Boborykin 6-2, 6-1.

The only duo to gain doubles point was that of superstar team Hach and Gesser, who defeated Cardinals Joyce and Meeks 8-5.

The men’s team played a 14-15 season with 1-2 in conference.
