From business class to sports staff

May 2, 2013 by Edward Isaacs

I’ll be honest, I don’t really like writing about myself. It just feels awkward. But since this is the last piece you’ll see from me in Texas’ greatest college newspaper, I suppose I can try. So here goes.

When I came to ACU I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. My major was chosen by what sounded good. Seriously. After two years of taking business classes, I finally realized COBA wasn’t my thing. The switch to journalism was made the summer before my junior year. That was one of the best decisions of my college career (the other is working for the Optimist).

I’ve enjoyed my two years on staff and have been blessed by the opportunities to cover numerous significant athletic happenings around campus. These include: the move to NCAA Division I next season, the announcement of a new athletic logo, Ken Collums first season as the new head football coach and several other coach hirings.

A big thanks goes out to all those Journalism and Mass Communication teachers who have assisted me throughout these two years. I would not be the journalist I am today without your help and guidance.

I’m even more thankful for the Optimist staff that has surrounded me. I’m certain there has never been a more close nit sports staff than the group I’ve had an opportunity to be around. Matt, Taylor, Mandy and Natalie, you guys are wonderful. You made my job so much easier and fun.

The out-of-town trips we took to football games and other sporting events are memories I will never forget. I always looked forward to those weekends.

Matt don’t fret too much. Yeah there will probably not be another sports editor duo like us, but if you ever need help writing a witty, pun-filled headline remember, I’m only a phone call away.

So I guess that’s it ACU. Ladies, look for me in a couple of years because I might be interviewing your favorite Texas Rangers crush (you know who I’m talking about).

Several ACU students were removed from the seating behind the Utah Valley bench late in the fourth quarter while arguing with UVU fans. After a conversation with ACUPD and other staff members, they were relocated to the stands near the UVU bench on the south baseline.

An altercation occurred between Associate Head Coach Yannick Denson and UVU Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Josh Morzelewski ahead of the 1 p.m. tip. The playing surface was mopped less than an hour before tip, while the Wolverines were completing their pregame warmups.
