The Homecoming Queen nominees were lined up on the football field Saturday in anticipation of the news of who will be the winner for Homecoming Queen. The winner was Ellie Berry, senior Kinesiology major from Burleson, who represented Ko Jo Kai.
“Just being on the court in general was so fun and awesome,” Berry said. “It was a sweet moment getting to share with my dad because he was just really proud of me, and my whole family was proud of me. I think that honestly meant more than anything.”
Berry was excited with the news but admitted that the announcement of her winning had a delayed reaction because of the surprise and shock that she and her dad had.
“I just feel so thankful and honored that I even had this opportunity to represent this club,” Berry said.
Several people were in support of her win, especially her friend Callee Stephens, an ACU cheerleader, who viewed her as a perfect representation of a Queen for ACU.
“Ellie is a bundle of joy. Everywhere she goes she makes people feel really seen and valued,” said Stephens, senior nursing major from Argyle.
The Homecoming Queen nominees underwent a different process than in previous years. The nominees were chosen by the student organizations they are current members of. After this, the nominees had to submit an application that consisted of a résumé and four essay prompts. Twelve females were selected by a blind review that consisted of 36 faculty and staff members. The other court nominees were:
- Madison Chedester for Sanctify
- Victoria Cheshire for Missions Students Association
- Alli Dimmitt for Student Government Association
- Lainey Hale for Sigma Theta Chi
- Maci Johnson for Campus Activities Board
- Josie Lara for Kinesiology Club
- Aspen Malone for Pickleball Club
- Kiki Rodriguez for Outlaws Dance Club
- Maurica Simpson for ACU Democrats
- Brooke Stemple for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association
- Abby Weiss for Delta Theta
The homecoming court was not the only group that could celebrate a victory. Multiple groups competed in a parade earlier that day.
The winners of the parade were:
- Student Organization: Sanctify
- Fraternity: Gamma Sigma Phi
- Sorority: Ko Jo Kai
Homecoming was celebrated with many other activities including tailgating, a football game that ended with a win, and organizations around campus holding separate activities.
