The varsity volleyball team will have a four-on-four grass volleyball tournament called Final Fun Fest, May 3 at the Sanders Intramural Fields to raise money for the team.
Assistant coach Ijeoma Moronu said this is the first time for a grass tournament at ACU.
“I’m pretty active in grass volleyball tournaments and outdoor tournaments,” Moronu said. “I wanted ACU to be a part of an outdoor volleyball tournament.”
The cost to enter a team is $60 and students can sign up in groups of five, with four players and one sub.
Moronu said she is hoping at least 15 teams sign up no matter their skillset.
“It’s so much fun whether you’re a beginner or you’re really good at volleyball,” Moronu said. “It’s a really good time with your friends, just enjoying the weather and getting a little workout in.”
Monoru said she encourages students to come even if they are not playing, to cheer on the other teams. Admission is free and raffle prizes will be given out throughout the day. Raffle prizes include gift cards, ACU Volleyball shirts and volleyballs.
“It’s a really fun way to hang out with your friends before finals,” Monoru said. “It’ll just be a good time playing some music and volleyball outside.”
Monoru said Final Fun Fest will be a great way to get to know the varsity volleyball team, which will be working the tournament.
“It’s a great way to support the varisty volleyball team,” Monoru said. “It’s a good way to get to know them and get more involved and ready for our fall season.”
Madison Hoover, sophomore ad/PR major from Flower Mound, is the labero for the varsity volleyball team. She said she has played in grass tournaments in her hometown and was excited Monoru brought them to ACU.
“I think we can make it really big and fun,” Hoover said. “People will look forward to it.”
Hoover said grass volleyball is easier than sand volleyball.
“It’s easier to jump and it’s not as hard as sand because you can actually move around,” Hoover said.
Hoover said she hopes students come out to support the volleyball team and have a good time.
“It’s the last week before summer and it’s just a chance to go out and play volleyball and get some sun,” Hoover said.
Teams can sign up for Final Fun Fest by emailing Monoru at ish07a@acu.edu.
