Students elected 51 new representatives to serve as Congress members for the 2015-2016 school year.

Because of some technical difficulties, Students’ Association was unable to use the vote.acu.edu online voting system for the election, resulting in a lower voter turnout than recent semesters. The executive cabinet found out the site would be unavailable the night before the election and acted quickly to get paper ballots ready for voting.

“The paper ballot system went very well and our cabinet handled it very well and quickly in light of the situation we were faced with,” said SA President Beau Carter.

Abbey Moses, SA interim executive vice president, said she was pleased with the results of the elections.

“Of course we would’ve got more participation if vote.acu.edu worked,” Moses said. “Of course I wished we would’ve had something easier for students because we want the most voter participation that we can get.”

New members of Congress begin their terms this weekend at the SA Retreat and will prepare for next week’s fall budget meeting.

“Just in general, we were happy, especially with everything that was thrown in our way,” Moses said. “We have wonderful members of Congress now, and I hope that next time we can do it online so that more students can get to vote. All in all, we are representing what our students want and what they voted for.”
