With Homecoming on the horizon, the student body has elected 11 nominees for this year’s Homecoming Queen.
Each student had the opportunity to nominate five women from the senior class as potential candidates for Homecoming Queen.
This year’s Homecoming nominees are Alex Abston, Chera Chaney, Stephanie Jordan, Rachel Lopez De Castilla, Shannon Motz, Courtney Roberts, Maci Smith, Courtney Spink, Amy Stornello, Mandy Stratton and April Young.
To announce their nominations, the Homecoming Steering Committee kidnaps the nominees and takes them to a secret location, said Mabree Moore, a member of the steering committee.
“It was one of the most fun things I’ve done in a while,” said Moore, junior education major from Brownwood. “Seeing how excited and scared they were as we blindfolded them to take them to the secret location was priceless.”
At the secret location, the nominees are greeted with snacks and given information regarding what they will need to know for the next few weeks leading up to Homecoming. The nominees will take part in events leading up to Homecoming including the Queen’s Tea, riding in the Homecoming Parade and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen at halftime during the football game.
Rachel Lopez De Castilla, senior psychology major from San Antonio, said she will always treasure being on court with the other 10 women.
“I have been coming to Homecoming since I was little with my family and had so much fun at all the activities,” Lopez De Castilla said. “Now 15 years later, I have the chance to be a part of all of the things I loved when I was little.”
Chera Chaney, senior graphic design major from Merkel, also expressed her excitement about being nominated.
“Being nominated as Homecoming Queen is an amazing honor, and it means so much to me to be voted into this position with 10 other great girls,” Chaney said. “It has always been a dream of mine, and I am looking forward to making a lot of great memories during homecoming week.”
Voting to select the 2015 Homecoming Queen is now open until midnight Wednesday. To vote, go to http://acu.edu/queens.
