The Wildcats (3-2, 0-0) have a busy slate ahead as they play three games this week. ACU will be on the road for its first two games as it travels to San Antonio to take on UT-San Antonio on Tuesday and then heads to Waco on Thursday to play No. 4 Baylor. The women close the week by hosting University of Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday.
ACU was on a three-game winning streak before their 71-45 loss to No. 25 Texas A&M. Each of the Wildcats’ losses this season have come against nationally ranked teams, as their first loss came against No. 24 Missouri in their season opener.
The Wildcats begin their week against familiar foe UTSA. The Roadrunners are the only non-conference team that ACU has played every year since their transition to the Div. 1 level. UTSA holds the lead in the two teams’ all-time meetings with a 2-1 record against the Wildcats.
UTSA is on a three-game losing streak, and its season is off to a rocky 1-5 start, with its only win on the season coming against Div. II Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Roadrunners are averaging 66 points per game, but are allowing 71.5 points a game from their opponents.
The next game this week comes against the No. 4 ranked Baylor Bears. Baylor is currently 7-1 after their impressive sweep in the Gulf Coast Showcase Tournament, in which they beat Kent State, No. 18 DePaul, and No. 8 Ohio State by an average of 30.3 points to come out as the Gulf Coast Showcase Champions.
Baylor has played three top-10 teams this season already with wins against No. 9 UCLA, 84-70, and No. 8 Ohio State, 85-68. The Bears lone loss on the season comes against No. 3 Connecticut, when they lost 72-61.
The Bears also have five players averaging double digits, led by guard Alexis Jones, who averages 16.4 points per game. The Wildcats only have one player in double digits in forward Sydney Shelstead, who averages 16.0 points per game. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
Finally UMKC has a 2-3 record with wins over Wichita State, 56-54, and Morgan State, 64-56. The Roos have a squad that is returning 11 players and four starters from last year’s team, including 2016 Media All-WAC Preseason First-Team honoree, junior guard Aries Washington.
You can catch the first game of the week against UTSA on 98.1 the Ticket, as the Wildcats look to even the recent rivalry against the Roadrunners.
