Ramblings of a partial retiree

April 29, 2014 by Marissa Jones

This is my goodbye column, but it's not my last column. Which feels a bit awkward. Usually when an editor writes her goodbye column, she's sentimentally saying sayonara for good. But I guess you could say I'm retiring early or, maybe more accurately, partially retiring. I'll no longer be Editor in Chief of the Optimist, but I'm sticking around ... [Read More…]

April 24, 2014 by Marissa Jones

Observe the female college student in her natural habitat. She seems especially agitated as she hunts this exceptionally elusive prey- the ... [Read More…]

March 25, 2014 by Marissa Jones

There's a soccer ball sitting in the yard next door. It's mine. I think one of my friends kicked it over there, and it's been sitting there for months. I keep meaning to go get it, but tomorrow always seems like a better time to do it. So it just keeps sitting there. I am a chronic procrastinator, which leads to many all-nighters, many ... Comic Sans: A tale of snobbery

February 27, 2014 by Marissa Jones

You know those things everybody loves to hate? - things like Core, Nickleback, Nicolas Cage. And, of course, Comic Sans. If you think you know anything about fonts, odds are you've laughed scornfully at a poster that committed the most deadly of design sins of using Comic Sans. You probably did this pretentiously to your friends or, really, ... [Read More…]
