April 12, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

Less than 48 hours after our track and field team dominated at its annual Wes Kittley Invitational, head coach Keith Barnier was relieved of his duties, effective immediately, according to director of athletics Lee De Leon. Three years ago, when Barnier arrived at Abilene, he was tasked with carrying a legendary track and field team through a ... [Read More…]

The real problem with attendance at athletic events

March 31, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

This past Monday night, the men's basketball team played in unfamiliar territory at the Hardin Simmons gym. Also unfamiliar was the packed gym of purple, cheering for the Wildcats. Wildcat Reign has helped foster student attendance and involvement at sporting events; the athletic department sponsors tailgates involving clubs and giveaways for ... [Read More…]

Just do it, Obama

March 31, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

Justice Antonin Scalia's death was nearly immediately politicized. President Obama has the right and duty to nominate a qualified, just person to the Supreme Court. While the Supreme Court returned to the bench this past Monday, Scalia's unexpected passing last week not only leaves an even number of justices, but also leaves several cases undone ... Abilene pet owners neglect animal care in strange ways

March 31, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

As college students (or any human with a soul, really) we love animals. Even more than the random seal or sloth gif, we love our pets. Some of you even love the stray cats wandering our beloved ACU. Then why is it Abilene pet owners, animal caretakers, and people in general are neglecting their duty in the weirdest of ways? And while this is a ... [Read More…]

March 31, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have quickly become what experts call the greatest food industry debate in history. Proponents claim greater, stronger crops. Those against say they hurt everyone, from the farmer to the consumer, both economically and physically. No matter what side you're on, we have the right to know if GMOs are in their ... What is Zika and how did we get here

February 14, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

The Zika virus seems to be a case of déjà vu for many. We all remember hearing about the Ebola virus on the other side of the world. Many of us at ACU also remember the powerful, terrifying experience alumnus Dr. Kent Brantly recounted in the fall of 2014. Just like Ebola, we in America are just now hearing about this incurable virus. We ... [Read More…]

Why the classics still matter

February 8, 2016 by Shera Niemirowski

Yes, movies with zombies and kisses in the rain are fun to watch. But where do these cheesy, outrageous, seemingly bizarre plots come from? We've all had to take some form of a history or English class, but that only scratches the surface. Today's economic policies, movies, medicine, and even technology are all firmly rooted in the classics of ... [Read More…]
