By Wilson McCoy III What do politicians, athletes, and rappers have in common? They are all guilty of P.D.A.: Public Displays of Aggression. However, their eruptions should not be isolated from larger American public life represented by recent town hall meetings where rage was rampant. These celebrities have received numerous indictments recently, ... [Read More…]
Pledging provides spiritual experience
Brian Peacock, Secretary Emeritus, Gamma Sigma Phi I believe [a column in Sunday's issue] concerning pledging was misleading. The author claims to be an insider into the pledging process of a men's social club. As a former officer for the club that the author pledged, I know for a fact that the author left the pledging process less than a week ... [Read More…]
Optional Chapel offers superior experience
My freshmen year, I probably would have sharply disagreed with you about Chapel being optional, but 3 years of being subjected to day after day of childish behavior and blatant disrespect for this school, the students of this school and the beliefs both hold has brought me to this frustrated solution. I agree, Chapel should be mandatory, but not ... [Read More…]
Chapel should be optional
I never understood the reason behind making attendance mandatory. I understand that ACU has the right to make people go to Chapel since it is a private school, but that doesn't answer the question of why you would want people in Chapel who do not want to be there in the first place. Furthermore, if we cannot complain about having to go to ... [Read More…]
Trojans strive to maintain promising reputation
Trojans have hit the ground running this semester as they have risen to the challenge of being back on campus, once again subjected to the new kid syndrome. Because Trojans were unable to pledge last semester, there are many questions surrounding what we represent. A recent article alluded to a rumor that Trojans are simply interested in fun and ... Impeachment proceedings inappropriately malign
As a personal friend of Daniel Paul Watkins, I feel like I should mention a couple things about the stories that have been present. First of all, D.P. Watkins has been accused of several "crimes" but the reporting has failed to go into detail about the crimes, and several people have asked about the exact crimes. Being late for meetings with a ... Impeachment unfairly maligns SA Congress president’s character
The character of a young man has been impugned with vague accusations; and because of the vagueness of the charges, he cannot even defend himself. This could affect his acceptance at law school, any jobs for which he might apply and his reputation for years to come. It does not even appear to be a legal action. According to the Student ... Watkins deserved impeachment
I am a member of the Students' Association Congress and was in attendance at the hearing. The fact that almost the entire cabinet voted to impeach former President Watkins from office spoke volumes to me. They worked with him 10 or 20 hours per week and knew his actions and attitudes while in the office. I trust them and respect their decision. ... [Read More…]
Forgiveness crucial in conflict
"Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody ... [Read More…]
Judging Sing Song detracts from enjoyable experience
I want to know why Sing Song has to be a contest. I love Sing Song because it is a chance for people to put on a great show, dress in crazy costumes and sing funny songs. It is a time for getting to know your fellow classmates and club members better. But the fact that it is a contest, that it pits class against class, club against club, ... [Read More…]
