Ag department to host 4th annual barn dance

November 12, 2015 by Megan Abel

The Department of Agriculture and Environmental Science will host their fourth annual Barn Dance at 7:30 pm. Friday at the ACU Rhoden Farm.

The event will is a combined effort by students from the department and members of Delta Tau Alpha. The dance will have a few new options for students who attend and there will be a hayride, snacks, dance space and live music by student bands.

In the past, approximately 200 people attended the dance and members of AES are gearing up for another successful year. Sarah Bishop, president of the block and bridle club, said this year’s dance will be a game changer.

“The AES members want to have more involvement with student life so we put a lot into the planning of this event,” Bishop said. “A lot of creativity went into this dance and I believe it’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone.”

Student president of Delta Tau Alpha, Reece Wells, said after last year’s proposal to close the department, he hopes the barn dance creates positivity surrounding the AES department.

“The agriculture department is still here and we want to have a presence in the community,” Wells said. “The barn dance helps us be involved in life here at ACU and we hope students will associate that positivity with what the AES is all about.”

The barn dance is a fundraiser for the department of agriculture and environmental science and its associated club. The money raised goes to a number of events for the club along with raising money for AES students to go to professional and informational conventions.

“We like to help provide a way for the club members to attend professional conventions and events relating to our degree,” Wells said. “These trips cost a significant amount of money and we are glad the Barn Dance can relieve some of those costs.”

Tickets for the dance will be available at the door. Single tickets are $5 and couples tickets are $8.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
