Finals week represents to many students that last climb before reaching the final peak of the semester and the descent of summer.
To others it means a week of no schedules, fewer classroom hours and no Chapel.
“It’s probably one of my easier weeks,” said Amy Palmer, senior nutrition major from Brandon, Miss.
Students find the week to be either stressful or easy for different reasons.
“You have a lot more open time and not too strict of a schedule,” said Jason Vick, sophomore Christian ministry major from San Antonio. “You can finish studying for the exam pretty quickly because you usually get a pretty good study guide from your teachers.”
Others do not see the week to be as simple.
“I think it’s stressful because all my grades come down to this point,” said Chris Fall, sophomore business management major from San Antonio.
Faith Drew, a study skills tutor at Alpha Academic Services, often offers advice on how and when to study.
“What we tell students is get plenty of rest,” said Drew, a graduate student in marriage and family therapy from Phoenix. “And eat healthy.”
Studying in spurts is better than cramming, she said.
“Study… 20 minutes to an hour and after that, take a 15 minute break,” Drew said.
Tutors at Alpha Academic Services often tell students to find a partner to study with and vary the ways students study.
“We tell them to incorporate other ways to quiz themselves,” she said. “Like say it into a tape recorder or make flash cards.”
