The Wildcats needed a Drew Cuffee 81-yard interception in overtime to beat Texas A&M Commerce 20-14 at the Cotton Bowl Saturday.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference. Commerce fell to 0-3 on the season.
Weather played a major role as neither team, could find the end zone in the first half. ACU scored first in the third quarter, but Commerce returned an interception to tie the score.
ACU scored a touchdown late in the fourth, only to see Commerce mount a comeback and score on a 20-yard touchdown pass with thirty-two seconds left in the game.
The Wildcats won the overtime toss and elected to play defense first. Overtime didn’t last long as sophomore cornerback Drew Cuffee stepped in front of a Adam Farkes pass and returned it 81-yards for the score and the win.
This game was an instant classic for ACU the first ever for the Wildcats at the historic Cotton Bowl.
