Linda,
Thanks so much for highlighting my lack of Facebook etiquette! I think the term is “Boom! Roasted!” You definitely got me!
Not to worry though. You’re not alone. After a quick peek this morning, I see that I have 876 friend requests, several invites to events and groups – even an invite to play Mafia Wars! Yes, it’s been awhile since I logged in!
I definitely see Facebook as a great way to connect with friends, students, faculty, staff, alumni and really anyone in the ACU community. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to find the time to be an active user. Even my mom uses Facebook- Wow! So what’s that saying about me? Not sure. Maybe it’s mild apprehension with giving my college roommates such a great venue to tell stories about the new ACU president! Or it could be that I haven’t quite figured out the best strategy for dealing with the volume of e-mail and other correspondence that comes to this office, and I’m hesitant to add another venue. It’s important to me to be responsive.
I do want to be an active Facebook user- just not quite yet! I want to be able to give it the right amount of personal attention, and right now I’m not sure I can. So, to clear up any confusion, I have temporarily deactivated my Facebook profile. I’m officially taking a break from Facebook – not because I don’t believe in social networking but because right now my focus is just not there.
I will, however, make you two promises. First, when I reactivate, your friend request will be one of my first to confirm. Second, I’d love to talk baseball anytime!
Phil
