The Service Action Leadership Team, SALT, will play a big role in this year’s Season for Caring, which begins Wednesday.
SALT, an organization determined to get more students involved in volunteer work, will provide leadership for several portions of this year’s program. Dr. Schubert and Mark Hewitt, from Love and Care Ministries, will are scheduled to explain the service opportunities in Chapel on Wednesday.
SALT’s largest project within the Season of Caring will be Thanksgiving Meals. The team will be providing food baskets to low income families whose children attend Taylor Elementary School.
SALT will be collecting cash to buy food from now through Nov. 21. Volunteers are invited to help assemble food boxes on Nov. 20 and SALT will deliver them the following day.
SALT welcomes volunteers of any age. Sean Marmolejo, sophomore psychology major from China Spring, said his involvement with SALT helped him pinpoint the area of ministry he is most passionate about. Although he is no longer a member of the organization, Marmolejo said he believes SALT is a great way for Freshmen to discover the array of opportunities they have to serve in their community.
Erin Roder, sophomore nursing major form Bandera, is looking forward to the work SALT will be helping with during Season of Caring.
“SALT really helps you get involved in the community, to meet people and to do good things,” Roder said.
