With intramural flag-football season coming to a close, sign-ups for indoor soccer, bowling and volleyball have begun.
With about 3,000 students participating, intramural sports is one of the best places to meet people and make friends in the ACU community. A wide variety of sports are available and students can create their own teams with friends or join an already existing team.
Students can register, create or join an intramural team by going to imleagues.com and creating an account with their ACU email address. After that, students will be able to sign on at any time, see what sports are coming up and check deadlines to sign up for teams.
This year’s larger freshman class has balanced out the smaller sophomore class and prevented student involvement from fluctuating.
Director of intramural sports, Kenli Edwards said she is excited about the participation of the freshmen.
“The freshmen have been very involved since Welcome Week,” Edwards said. “I just hope they will stay involved.”
Sigma Theta Chi enters the season as two-time university champions in intramurals.
Elizabeth “Libby” Sinclair, junior marketing major from Abilene, and intramural director for Sigma Theta Chi said when it comes to maintaining Siggies’ history of success, she is “just trying to keep the spirit of intramurals in Siggies alive.”
Even though social clubs are quick to sign up for sports, since they compete for overall points, Edwards said the intramural sports office is trying to get away from weekend tournaments and add a few new sports. This attempt is to raise participation of students who are not involved in social clubs.
As far as indoor soccer, bowling and volleyball are concerned, these sports will not see any program changes.
Intramural sports registration is open for bowling, volleyball, waterball, racquetball and handball.
