Frats look to help renovate intramural fields

April 29, 2015 by Jonathan Raitz

Alumni from the men's social club Frater Sodalis are trying to raise $50,000 to renovate the Larry "Satch" Sanders Intramural Fields. If completed, the project will provide the fields with new grass and soil. Frats adviser and project fundraiser Tim Yandell said the arch at the entrance and lights around the fields were added after the original ... [Read More…]

Intramural season nearing a close with soccer finals

April 22, 2015 by Daniel Block

This shall be the penultimate printing of the intramural column everyone has grown to love (or hate) over the course of the last two semesters. And because there is no guarantee this column will be continued in the future (apparently it's not the type of 'true journalism' the Optimist strives for), I would suggest you keep this edition and have it ... Two claps and a woo! for intramural soccer

April 8, 2015 by Daniel Block

It seems like it was only a few short weeks ago the Larry "Satch" Sanders Intramural Fields were first trod upon by eager flag football players, ready to take on another school year and another run at intramural glory. Now, nearly two semesters later, with the soccer season entering playoffs, the intramural fields and gyms will soon be nothing ... [Read More…]

Soccer season takes over intramurals

March 27, 2015 by Daniel Block

Just like that, intramural basketball season is over. Is there even a point to finishing the rest of the semester now that the most important part of the spring term has been settled? Of course, I'm just joking. There are still formals to go to, and I'm pretty sure GATA's intramural director, Emily Sears, is just dying to ask me to go with ... [Read More…]

Club rivalries highlight intramural basketball finals

March 20, 2015 by Daniel Block

The intramural basketball season ended Thursday night with its own version of March Madness. All season long, the social club teams lagged behind the non-club teams, kind of like how I am lagging behind in my homework and classes at this point in the semester. But if intramural basketball can tell us anything, it's that it's not how you start, ... [Read More…]

The calm before the storm: bye week for intramurals

March 5, 2015 by Daniel Block

Spring break is here, which means all intramural teams receive a much-needed bye week before entering the final two rounds of playoffs. Some teams will use the break to rest injured stars while others will force their players to follow strict training regimens so they don't lose their "touch" leading into the most meaningful games of the season. ... Social clubs fall behind in intramural basketball standings

February 25, 2015 by Daniel Block

After a one-week hiatus due to the annual Sing Song extravaganza (nice job on the predictions, Optimist), intramurals returned with a vengeance to the gyms of the Rec. The glitter littering the floor was replaced with sweat, and 'bows were once again thrown rather than worn. Costumes were traded for headbands, wristbands and the occasional ... [Read More…]

Basketball ‘bows exchanged for Sing Song bows this weekend

February 11, 2015 by Daniel Block

The Rec remains silent this week; one might even say it is lonely, without the dribbling of basketballs and tears of defeat to keep it company late into these warm winter evenings. In truth, the Rec's older and bigger brother, Moody Coliseum, is stealing all the intramural glory this week with some event everyone seems to be fussing about known ... [Read More…]

Intramurals feature basketball brotherhood

February 4, 2015 by Daniel Block

The first week of intramurals in 2015 has proven absolutely nothing. Honestly, it's far too early to make any predictions, considering only one team has played more than one game. But, in order to stay true to the name of sports journalism, it is my duty to overanalyze and over-report and predict winners and conduct interviews as though the ... [Read More…]

Spring intramurals tip off this week

January 28, 2015 by Daniel Block

And we're back. The spring intramural season kicks off this week with Champs League basketball (insert Lil' Bow Wow lyrics here). On any given night, the Rec is sure to be filled with players sporting sweaty headbands, armbands, shin-length shorts, maybe a compression sleeve or two and 23 different pairs of J's (and that's just the women's ... There is no question that the current climate among Americans is tense and, as the Capitol Hill and 2020 riots show, even hostile. Although these behaviors have always been present, it seems that the last decade has seen an increase in tribal tendencies. We cling to the ankles of our political candi...
