Sing Song tickets now available for purchase

October 19, 2012 by John Martin

Students, parents and visiting alumni can purchase tickets for Sing Song 2013 this weekend in the Campus Center.

Tickets will go on sale online November 1st, but people too eager to wait can purchase them October 19th from 5 – 8 p.m. in the Campus Center.

Tom Craig, director of student activities and productions, said the advance tickets sale prices will not be discounted.

“The prices will be the same as the set prices for each show, but those who purchase them early will have the best selection of seats to choose from,” Craig said.

Ticket prices are $16 for the 8 p.m. show Friday, Feb. 15th, $18 for the 2 p.m. show Saturday, Feb. 16th and $24 for the 8 p.m. show Feb. 16th.

The theme for Sing Song 2013 is “Vacation.” Upstage groups will be encouraged to correlate their acts with the theme as best as possible. The acts performed on the lower stage will all connect to the theme. Craig said he is excited to see everything come together.

“The theme is designed to create a show that’s fun, exciting and it will hopefully transport the audience to special places in their minds,” Craig said.

The hosts and hostesses for this year’s show are Austin Anderson, Abbie Boyd, Bree Hembree, Amanda Jarufe, Jace Reinhard and Jarrett Ward.

“The hosts and hostesses are all top-notch singers who will help create a memorable show that, when guests walk away, they will say, ‘Wow’,” Craig said.

Abbie Boyd, junior elementary education major from Austin had parental influence that drove her to audition for hostess.

“My dad has always said, ‘Take every opportunity that’s put in front of you because you never know what can come from it’,” Boyd said. “Singing is my passion, so I’m extremely excited.”

Boyd went on to express how she felt when she got the part as hostess.

“I was so happy about the other five people that got it with me,” Boyd said. “We just kept hugging each other over and over again. I actually don’t feel like it’s hit me yet. With all the excitement it may not hit me until I’m physically on that stage singing. I am just truly thankful for this opportunity because everyone I auditioned with was amazing.”

My second year at ACU was full of opportunities that grew me as an individual and a journalist.

In my first year as editor in chief of @acuoptimist, we published six print issues, filmed a 3-hour live election show, and revamped our newscast, all while producing news weekly.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
