Students pre-registering for Run of Dye 5K

April 1, 2013 by Emmett Niland

Run or Dye has announced it will host a 5K Color Run in Abilene. ACU students are buzzing with interest. The event has been tentatively scheduled for Aug. 17, although the registration website said the specific date is subject to change.

Run or Dye has sponsored events in cities across the country. Participants register to run or walk as they are intermittently splashed, sprayed and showered with brightly colored paint.

Sarah Beardsley, communication graduate student from Keller, ran in a Run or Dye event in Dallas in February.

“It’s probably the most fun run you’ll ever do,” Beardsley said. “Basically you line up and it’s like big party the whole way through. You run to each color station and there is a puff that’s like an explosion of color. Most people wear white so they can get all messy and end up with the colors all over.”

While some students have been in Color Runs before, many will be participating for the first time in August. Kaila Daley, sophomore nursing major from Boerne, has already signed up for the Run or Dye 5K in August.

“I’ve never done a Color Run before, but I’ve always thought they looked like a lot of fun,” Daley said. “I’m really excited that it’s coming here to Abilene so I can be a part of it.”

Run or Dye is more then just great deal of fun as they typically partner with local charities to help the communities where their events are hosted. Run or Dye is still looking for sponsors and charities for the Color Run in Abilene.

Run or Dye events usually sell out well ahead of time but anybody can pre-register for the run in Abilene on their website www.runordye.com to guarantee a spot.

Registration for teams of four or more costs $45 per person and individual registration costs $50.
