2-0 win moves soccer to 6-0-1 record

September 17, 2013 by Brittney Johnson

Sept. 14 the Wildcats traveled to Plainview where they matched up against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers at the J.V Hilliard Field.

Thirty-two minutes into the first half, senior midfielder Jacey Ferrara scored her second goal of the season with an assist from senior forward Andrea Carpenter.

Carpenter was constantly looking to help out her team as her four assists match her career high from her freshman year.

The second half, the Wildcats were high on defense. Freshman forward and midfielder scored ACU’s second goal with assistance from freshman defender Alyssa Gerner.

“The first half we didn’t play as well as we hoped,” head coach Wilson said. ” The second half was stronger with more scoring opportunities.”

Overall, the team took 11 goal attempts with eight being a shot of the goal.

Sarah Schoch, Nicci Nelson, Ashley Craig and Mandy Stratton were a few who attempted at a goal.

The Wildcats left the Pioneers 2-0 and are now 6-0-1 overall with a four game winning streak.

The game against Wayland Baptist University marked the end of the non-conferenc matches of the season.

The Wildcats will be back at home playing at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. as they head up Sam Houston State University.

Starting friday, the ‘Cats will only match against teams in the Southland Conference.

“The girl have been looking forward to this all year. They are excited to see how they stack up against bigger teams.” Coach Wilson said.” This will be a good change of pace.”

This season, they are set to play teams like Houston Baptist University, Central Arkansas University and the University of Incarnate Word.
