The men’s golf team will look to continue their solid play of late, as they will travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to compete in the ASU Red Wolves Intercollegiate April 7 and 8. The event, hosted by Arkansas State University, will be the second-to-last tournament the Wildcats have scheduled on their slate before the spring season comes to a close.
“It’s important for us to play well and do our best out there,” junior Corbin Renner said. “I’m confident in myself, and very confident in my team that we can have a strong showing.”
The Wildcats played in the ULM/Wallace Jones Invitational earlier this week, where they finished fourth behind a strong performance by Renner and freshman Robert Johnson. The team finished seventh out of 14 teams and was just two strokes away from sixth place conference rival, Nicholls State.
The Wildcats were not able to match the same level of success they found in day one of competition, as they held onto the number four spot before giving up their lead. Johnson finished the invitational with a +8 (224), which was good enough for a 13th place tie. Renner produced a +9 (225) to finish second for ACU and tied for 16th overall.
“Overall, the tournament went ok, but we had our struggles,” Renner said. “We all have areas where we can improve and we have to keep doing that.”
The team has steadily improved in every tournament they have competed in. Renner has provided a consistent swing for the Wildcats, as he has consistently put up good rounds and scores for the team so far.
After their trip to Arkansas, the Wildcats will look to finish their season in Texas at the Southland Conference Championships in McKinney April 21-23.
