The Brown Library started Facebook giveaways in an attempt to get students more involved in the library’s history and resources.
Mollie Scherer, library communications and development officer, said she started the Facebook trivia because she was curious how many students, faculty, and members of the community were aware of the library’s history.
“One of my roles at ACU Library is to advance and manage communications,” said Scherer. “A way to accomplish this is through social media by posting trivia questions that engage students and faculty to learn more about ACU’s rich library history and the many ways it impacts the community, students and faculty.”
The first trivia question posted on Facebook said “#Throw Back Thursday. The first ACU student (current or alumni) to identify (via FB comment) this person(pictured) wins a prize! Hint: He is known as the ‘Father of ACU Library.’”
The answer was Dr. Howard Shug.
Scherer said the library’s posts only reach about 30-90 people everyday, and that isn’t nearly enough considering the size of the student body. She said she hopes the new social media outreach will engage students to utilize library services and resources. The Maker Lab, Innovation Foundry and the Learning Studio, are just a few of the ways that the library enhances learning outside of the classroom.
“Tune in to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to learn more about ACU library,” Scherer said. “Maybe you’ll even win a prize.”
