The Wildcats were right in the middle of the pack in their first tournament of the year, finishing 10th out of 19 teams.
ACU finished +11 in the three-day Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, shooting 293-295-287 over the par-72 course. The University of Wyoming picked up the win with scores of 284-270-281 (-29.)
Head coach Tom Shaw said this is the best finish he’s had in this tournament by far. He also praised the work of returning sophomore Bryce Dooley, as well as praising two of the newcomers.
“I’m pleased with how the returners played, especially Bryce,” Shaw said. “I’m also very happy with newcomers Kade Miller and Alex Clouse, who were both valuable contributions for the Wildcats.”
Dooley led the team, shooting one-under-par over the three days, tying him at 24th individually for the tournament. Garrett Glanton shot 3-over with scores of 74-73-72 to tie for 46th. Scores were rounded out by the two freshman Miller(+6) and Clouse(+7), and junior transfer Cory Donnell(+17).
This was the first of four tournaments the team will attend this fall. ACU will participate in six more tournaments in the spring, including the Southland Conference Championships.
The Wildcats head back to action on Sept. 18 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, Louisiana.
