Shinnery Review takes literary entries for annual magazine

September 29, 2017 by Cynthia Rangel

The Shinnery Review will open for submissions on Nov. 1 for their annual edition.

The Shinnery Review is an award-winning magazine that allows students to submit their own pieces of literature for publication. Students submit their work and the staff votes which pieces to publish.

Dr. Steven Moore, associate professor in the Department of Language and Literature, said,“We try to get people who are very talented with words or with images or with paintings, we just try and encourage them to come and submit work to our magazine.”

The magazine publishes poetry, non-fictions, fictions, photographs, and art. The Shinnery Review is made up of students of diverse majors, and their goal is to get a published book in the spring. They encourage all to submit their work.

“Don’t say to yourself, there is no way I am going to get published in the literary magazine,” said Moore, director of the McNair Scholars Program. “In fact, there have been so many people who were featured in our magazine and have won awards. They were the ones that said over and over again that there is no way I am going to get published or win a national award. And they did. So, you just never know, you could be that person. Think of all of the doors it would open up.”
