Sing Song 2019 applications for student directors, formerly called co-chairs, and student managers are now open. Incoming juniors and seniors with a love for Sing Song can apply to be one of the next five student directors before April 11.
The student director position is a paid internship that gives the director a $1000 stipend for the 11 month duration. The job consists of duties such as overseeing the upstage processes, maintaining a Sing Song social media presence and coordinating merchandise and ticket sales.
While they will be busy for the duration of the event, directors are encouraged to join class or club acts as well as direct. The only requirements for becoming a student director are: being an incoming junior or senior, previously serving on the production team or directing an act and having a GPA of at least a 2.5.
Current co-chairs have traditionally picked student managers, but this year there is a full application and interview process with applications being due before April 24. The student manager is an unpaid volunteer position that will help with many of the same duties as the directors.
The only requirement that is different from the director position is classification. Students of any classification are welcome to apply for student manager. Ten applicants will be picked from this pool.
“We are really just looking for students that love Sing Song and working with their friends,” said Susanna Hornell, junior management major from Fort Worth.
In the past, there have only been about 15 applicants for the director position, but they are hoping to have a much larger pool of applicants this year.
