Chartwells to open smoothie station in the Bean

January 20, 2019 by Ashley Alfred

Chartwells is preparing to open a new smoothie station in the Bean.

The new smoothie station, Wildcat Blendz, will be in the corner of the Bean where the Gluten Closet was formerly located.

The smoothie station will also be a juice bar and will offer students a wider variety of healthy options in the Bean.

Nick Norris, director of dining services at Chartwells, said the decision was made to open a smoothie station as a result of a discussion on adding healthier options in the Bean.

“We wanted to find a way to offer the university a smoothie and fresh juice option,” Norris said. “At the same time, we are always looking for inventive ways to increase the value of the meal plan.”

Bart Herridge, dean of student engagement and retention, said the smoothie station was a result of the partnership between ACU and Chartwells.

“When we made the decision to close the Oasis in the SRWC, this became something we wanted in the Bean,” Herridge said. “Using the space where the gluten-free pantry was last year was ideal for something like this.”

Students who visit Wildcat Blendz will have several customizable options in order to form the smoothie or juice of their preference.

“We will have a number of options to put in your smoothie or juice,” Norris said. “Guests will be able to walk up, pick from the menu and their drink will be made fresh in front of them”

Hours for Wildcat Blendz have not yet been set.

“We are hoping the juice and smoothie bar will be a place that students can get more variety and options from their meal plans,” said Herridge. “Between the fresh fruit and add-ins available, this is the type of service many of our students have asked for and we’re glad to provide it as part of meal plans.”

Norris said more details will follow as soon as an opening date and hours have been chosen.
