On Friday December 7th the ACU Cabinet held an event open to the student body called the Silent Disco.

Cabinet prepares for second round of Silent Disco

May 1, 2019 by Brian Sweet

The Cabinet will host a second Silent Disco from 9 p.m. until midnight on Friday in the Hunter Welcome Center.

The Silent Disco is a dance party in which dancers use headphones to hear the music instead of listening through loudspeakers. The Cabinet hired Headphone Disco to DJ both of the disco events.

Ty Kelley, a member of the cabinet, said participants will grab a set of headphones turn them on and choose one of three channels: DJ No. 1, DJ No. 2 or DJ iPod, which is like a playlist.

The event was popular last semester, Kelley said, so this time, the Cabinet purchased an extra 200 pairs of headphones in anticipation of a big turnout.

Kelly, senior information systems major from San Antonio, said the Cabinet hopes to have a fast and efficient plan to hand out headphones at the event.

“Since we have 500 headphones for 500 students, we are going to try our best to set up a layout where it’s easy and quick to get your headphones,” Kelly said.

The Cabinet got the idea for the Silent Disco from their advisor, Caddie Coupe, after she went to a conference.

Hanna Roberts, marketing and business management major from Corpus Christi, said the Cabinet was surprised that the last Silent Disco was trending on social media sites.

“There was a bunch of buzz on social and we were able to track a lot of new followers,” Roberts said. “It was great to see that people were talking about us and talking about Silent Disco. It was one of the first things that really put our name out there.”

Kelly said this event is a time to let loose and have fun with your friends before finals week.

“We have a lot of events that focus on Dead Day, so it’s a small stress relief throughout the day,” Kelly said. “There’s nothing that allows you to let loose right before one of the most stressful weeks of their college career.”
