The Wildcats hosted their first ever Div. I Wildcat Classic volleyball tournament this past weekend going 1-2 throughout the tournament.
The first team that they were matched up against was Fullerton. Each set was close for the Wildcats, but they couldn’t grab the victory losing the game in straight sets. The first set the Wildcats lost 22-25, the second 21-25, and the third was 19-25.
They had a quick turnaround for their next game against Prairie View A&M, a team that they beat in a previous tournament. They beat then for a second time winning in five sets.
They came out hot for the first set winning 25-23, but lost momentum in the second set losing 20-25. They weren’t ready to give up just yet though. They won the third set 25-17, lost the fourth set 22-25 and won the fifth set 15-13.
For their last game the Wildcats hosted North Texas and lost 0-3 in straight sets. However, the score didn’t depict how hard they fought. In the first set, they lost 17-25, second 20-25 and third 22-25.
Senior outside hitter Eighmy Dobbins showed up and showed out once again this tournament. She said that although the tournament didn’t end how they would have liked it to, there was a lot of improvement in one particular area.
“I saw a lot of improvement in our fight,” Dobbins said. “Each point was a battle for us and seeing the momentum we gained after long rallies or a good service run was really exciting. I think our freshmen are finding their role and becoming more and more confident which is great.”
The Wildcats next matchup will be against Texas Tech on Monday and Dobbins has ties to that team as well.
Dobbins transferred from Tech and said that she is excited to be able to play her old school.
“One of the things I love about our schedule is that we get to play Tech twice a year,” Dobbins said. “It’s always a fun experience for me because I feel like I’m getting the opportunity to play with all of my collegiate teammates at once. It’s something I have always looked forward to and this will be my last time doing it, so it will be special.”
