The Honors College will host a quidditch event on dead day for the honors Cornerstone classes.
Quidditch is the school sport in the Harry Potter franchise. Each teams’ objective is to score goals into the other team’s hoops. In the series, each team has magical brooms that fly them around the battlefield. In this non-magical version of the sport, each person must keep a broomstick in between their legs as they run.
Sarah Laster, Honors College academic manager and budget director, is one of the people in charge of the event. Laster said she wants all of the Honors College Cornerstone classes to participate and teams will be determined based on groups assigned during Wildcat Week.
“The tournament is specifically geared toward our Honors Cornerstone sections, but we might have sign-ups for an additional team if any of our Cornerstone sections drop out,” Laster said. “We also have other dead day activities in the Honors College geared toward all of our current students, rather than exclusively first-year students.”
The quidditch event is an Honors College tradition. It emphasizes that dead day is a time for students to take a study break before finals start. The event will be held on the lawn across Library Court from Zellner next to Zona Luce.
