The Theatre Department has changed some dates for their spring semester shows after the snowstorm in February.
These changes were made due to the snowstorm that affected Abilene and the Big Country during the week of Feb. 14-20. These storms made for unsafe driving conditions and canceled Beau Jest which was originally scheduled to be performed Feb. 25-27.
“Changing the season this year has been incredibly difficult,” Dawne Swearingen-Meeks, Theatre Department Chair, said. “Our students, faculty, and staff are tired. However, we are beyond thankful that we have been able to continue to operate and provide high-level training and excellent quality performances & designs.
As the department chair, Meeks was the individual who approved the schedule changes for the spring. She is also the director for the streamed show “Songs for a New World” which was affected by these changes.
The date changes will not affect attendance as all three shows were scheduled to be streamed. This was due to COVID-19 attendance restrictions, and the theatre department only allowing cast and crew’s family members to attend each show.
“I was a little disappointed because I was really excited to open obviously, I was ready to get this show out so people can see it.” Hannah Sanza, a junior theatre major from Sherman and student director of Beau Jest said.
A total of three show’s dates were changed. These shows include.
- Beau Jest: March 18-20
- Dance of Hope: May 1
- Songs for a New World: May 6-8
As of right now, there are no other calendar changes expected of the department.
