Spring Rushing resumes this week

January 18, 2024 by Brylie Mahar

The spring ‘24 rushing process is in full swing with invitational rushing taking place.

There are several dates to look out for during the next few weeks of the rushing process. The fourth round of invitational rushes will start on Jan. 26. Bid distribution night is on Feb. 2 with men at 5:30 p.m. and women at 6 p.m. Bid day is on Feb. 3 from 3-10 p.m. New member orientation activities will take place from Feb. 4 – 18. Just under 500 students are registered to rush and join this spring.

Robin McPherson, Senior Coordinator for Fraternities and Sororities, said that students should expect to meet a lot of new people and friends during this process.

“They should expect to receive invitations based on their preferences, and the connections they have made with members during the invitational rushes,” McPherson said. “They should expect to receive a bid after the two weeks of Invitational Rushes. They will then be given the opportunity to participate in new member orientation activities.”

The fraternities at ACU are Frater Sodalis, Galaxy, Gamma Sigma Phi, Nu Kappa Psi, Sub T-16 and Trojans. The sororities at ACU include Delta Theta, The Women of GATA, Ko Jo Kai, Omicron Xi Chi, Sigma Theta Chi, Tri Kappa Gamma and Zeta Phi Alpha. Each one of these Greek life clubs have traditions dating back years while also creating new ones. By the end of new member orientation, students will be immersed in activities that will help them learn the history and traditions of their new Greek Life club.

Lainey Hale, senior graphic design major and Bible minor from Hamilton, Texas, is the President of Sigma Theta Chi.

“I hope regardless of if students choose to join a Greek Life organization or not, they meet more people within the ACU community to help make this campus feel more like home to them,” Hale said. “Rushing is a great time to meet people and get used to stepping out of your comfort zone, especially if you are more reserved like I am.”

If students have questions, they can reach out to McPherson at ram20b@acu.edu or the Greek Life Recruitment Counselors, Ivory at hmh17d@acu.edu or Austin at sab18b@acu.edu.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
