Basketball standout Quion Williams, who pleaded no contest in July to a charge of terroristic threatening in Arkansas, has recently been removed from the team roster.
Zach Lassiter, vice president of athletics, declined to comment, but the Department of Athletics later provided the following statement: “Quion Williams has decided to pursue other opportunities, and we support his decision.”
Williams, the team’s top-scoring transfer from Oklahoma State, was arrested May 27 and later charged the next day with first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony. The charge came following a May 17 altercation in which he was accused of threatening to shoot a woman in the head at a business party while showing a weapon in his waistband.
After his arrest, Williams bonded out on a $20,000 bail. The charge carried a potential sentence of one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Williams pleaded no contest on July 17 and was placed on 12 months of probation with a no-contact order.
After his arrest, Athletics released this statement: “Abilene Christian University (ACU) is aware of the recent arrest of a men’s basketball player in Arkansas, and the university will cooperate with law enforcement authorities in the investigation as needed. ACU takes matters like this seriously and is committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct within its athletic programs and the broader campus community. The university will continue to monitor the situation closely and will take appropriate actions in accordance with its policies and procedures.”
It’s unclear when Athletics removed him from the roster, but Williams was seen on campus with the team until recently. Biographical information has also been removed from the basketball team website. Williams could not be reached.
With previous experience at Oklahoma State, Williams averaged 13.7 points per game in 30 appearances, all of which he started. In ACU’s final game of the season, against Seattle University in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament, Williams ended the year strong, shooting 50% from the floor with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
When he had the chance, Williams did not enter the NCAA transfer portal. In fact, the team’s social media account posted a graphic titled “Be Different” on April 30, highlighting the numerous talents returning, including Williams.
At this time, Williams is not officially on any other university roster.
