Art exhibition opens on campus, reception set during Homecoming weekend

October 4, 2019 by Owen Simpson

A new art exhibition opened in the Clover Virginia Shore Gallery. The gallery has been named Coincidence of Opposites.

Professor Robert Green, director of the Fine Art Program, is showing recent paintings and sharing the walls with the work of fellow artists and friends Polly and Kenny Jones.

“We have done exhibitions together about every five years or so,” Green said. “The last one was in 2013, so it is something that is irregular.”

The gallery is on display until Oct. 18 and admission is free. Green also said that the story behind the gallery’s name is something that was a combined effort and simply reflected the different styles between artists.

“My colleagues came up with this. We kind of struggled to find a title for the exhibition,” Green said. “Our work is all unique, and I encourage everyone to see the show. Poly is a colorful painter, Kenny Jones paints mostly abstract, my work is somewhere in-between.”

The closing reception is slated for Oct. 18 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Green said it’s the best time to visit and see all the painters.

“Right now the gallery is open for people to come visit,” Green said. “but the Friday of homecoming week, a reception is scheduled. People are invited to come out, and the artists will be there.”

Green says there tends to be around 200 people present at the reception and members of faculty and staff are often present.

“If you went in right now, you might be the only person in that space,” Green said.

The ACU Clover Virginia Shore Gallery is located at the Don Morris building on ACU’s campus. The building is always open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. where you can admire the artwork for as long as you may wish.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
