SGA’s Litmas draws large crowd in early Christmas celebration

November 7, 2020 by Emma Harper

Over 600 students attended SGA’s Litmas Thursday to celebrate Christmas early on campus. The central activity was the lighting of a 35-foot tree.

Student run vendors Abi Thrift, Oh So Sunny Art and Purple Outfitters showcased the event Thursday. Student productions will be making an appearance to emphasize the holiday spirit. Students witnessed performances by a capella groups, ACU jazz ensemble, Rosemary beach and Lundi.

“The first year it was just a six foot Christmas tree with some blow up characters in the middle of the GATA fountain, and it was not that cool,” said Alyse Dowell, a senior biochemistry major from Fort Worth.”But, last year they went all out, with what had to be a 20 foot tree, lights everywhere, and a concert. They were also handing out free items, and it was a good time.”

The lighting of the tree is becoming an ACU tradition that students look forward to every year. Each year is more elaborate; this year the tree will have ornaments.

Students will be home after Thanksgiving, and there are many Christmas traditions campus cannot do early. Litmas took place early this year, so that students can still experience the holiday spirit on campus.

“We wanted to do it now so students have the tree as long as they would during a normal semester” said Amy Brock, SGA vice president and senior communications major from Arlington.
