The Office of Ministry Events is accepting artwork from the ACU community for use during next year’s Summit 2011.
Ministry Events is looking for art pieces that creatively portray the Summit 2011 theme, “Enough.”
“The theme comes from Isaiah 11:1, specifically,” said Anna James Perry, ministry events coordinator. “God has had enough with the sacrifices and burnt offerings. It is about focusing more on true religion than superficiality.”
Dr. Brady Bryce, director of Ministry Events, announced the theme for Summit 2011 after being inspired by this Isaiah passage.
“This is a bold theme coming from a prophet,” Bryce said. “Isaiah’s words are cold water poured over us. God is ready for some heart.”
The contest will accept drawings, paintings, photos and other visual items. The winner of the contest will receive $100 and the privilege and experience of his or her artwork being used during Summit 2011.
“This opportunity would look great on a résumé,” Perry said.
The artwork selected in past years has been used in Summit brochures, flyers, backgrounds and other university products.
“One year, we chose a huge painting for an Exodus theme and used it as a backdrop as Bryce interviewed Summit guests,” Perry said. “After Summit, the painting was purchased from the student and is now displayed in the Bible building.”
Perry said contestants can submit multiple pieces, and the contest contains no set criteria.
“Basically, whatever portrays the theme effectively,” Perry said.
This will be the fourth year of the Summit artwork contest. Bryce created the artwork submission opportunity when he became the director of Ministry Events in 2008.
“I have always wanted to involve students at all levels of Summit planning,” Bryce said. “This gives students a hands-on role in the visual part of Summit.”
Perry said the Office of Ministry Events has not yet received any entries, although the office usually sees the majority of entries submitted closer to the deadline. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 15, 2011.
“This is a chance to do something that affects the entire campus, not just a department,” Bryce said.
