Two Study Abroad courses to Prague will be offered during Maymester.
A European honors colloquium course and a political science course titled Central Europe: A Decade of Transition will both take trips to Prague, Czech Republic, and will visit Krakow, Poland, during Maymester.
The honors colloquium is open only to honors program students, but the political science course is open to all interested students.
The cost of each course is $1,995 and does not include personal expenses or food. Each course has 15 spots available but may take up to 20.
Students will be housed in three-star hotels, which is a “middle of the road” establishment, said Ted Presley, assistant professor of anthropology and director of international and intercultural education.
“We will do the majority of the work before we go, but a little will be done before and some after,” said Dr. Jonathan Wade, honors program assistant director and instructor for the honors colloquium course.
The political science course will be taught by Dr. Mel Hailey, chair of the Political Science Department.
Much of the trip will be spent visiting Prague and seeing firsthand the sights studied during the spring semester.
“Prague is a beautiful city; it’s never seen a war,” Wade said.
Students from both courses will visit castles, museums, take a boat trip on the River Vltava and visit Krakow, where the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp was located.
Both classes will be given time to see the cities of Prague and Krakow and “do tourist things,” Wade said. “Eastern Europe is much cheaper than Oxford. The exchange rate is better.”
Both classes are offered as spring courses, and interested students should register as soon as possible because most of the work will be done in the spring semester.
Grants, loans and scholarships are applicable to this trip and other Study Abroad courses.
