On Jan. 20, the ACU cheer and pom squad in Moody Coliseum revealed the name of the student section – Wildcat Den.

“Our hope is that students would be more drawn to sitting in the student section during games,” said Amber Ramazanali, Director of Spirit and Traditions and overseer of the Cheer and Pom Squad along with the Student Section. “We strive to have a student section that would help create an engaging atmosphere that plays into our teams having a home court advantage.”

The student section in Moody Colosseum did not have a previous name in the student section. During the Moody Madness event for basketball in October, ACU had students send in name suggestions. Out of those names that were submitted, Ramazanali and the student section leaders narrowed it down to a few names that students could vote on. During the Christmas Slam basketball game, students cast their votes to determine what the new student section name would be.

With those results, it was decided that the new name for the student section would be “Wildcat Den” and was revealed at the Welcome Back Bash basketball game on Jan. 26. The name was also voted on unanimously by the student section leaders as well.

“I think that the name, ‘Wildcat Den,’ is perfect,” said Keith Grey, a freshman Christian ministry major from Houston and student section leader. “This is the home of the Wildcats, and when other teams come here, they should know what they are getting themselves into.”

The hope is to see the student section grow to help better support our teams. Both Student Life and Athletics collaborate with each other and put in countless hours behind what goes into game days to help enhance our students’ game day experiences.
