ISA to prepare for annual Ethnos show

October 30, 2014 by Kynzie Newman

The International Students Association (ISA) will present its annual Ethnos Culture Show Nov. 7-8 in Cullen Auditorium.

The theme for this year’s show is “Stories Untold.” The idea behind the theme is that every person has a story that deserves to be heard.

The entirely student-run production unites cultures worldwide through performances and a festive atmosphere. The event will feature dancing, skits and other entertainment to celebrate the student body’s talent and diversity.

The show has 10 acts lined up for the audience. The acts will represent different cultures worldwide.

Denzil Lim, senior convergence journalism major from Malaysia, is president of ISA and is also directing and leading the show.

“From an Indian dance to martial arts, we have an assortment that will satisfy the viewers,” he said.

There are 180-200 people participating in this year’s show.

“There’s no need to buy a thousand dollar plane ticket and travel half way across the world,” Lim said. “The students and participants in Ethnos are bringing the cultures to your doorstep.”

Julia Curtis, junior English major from Mexico City, Mexico, is the scriptwriter.

“As the writer, I look forward to seeing my work on stage,” Curtis said. “It’s always wonderful to see how different actors react to your own work and how they recreate the characters that I created through their own personal experiences. The actors for Ethnos are so fun to work with, and I am excited to see the final product.”

The show will run from 7-9 p.m. both nights. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

“Watching a movie is great, but not exciting, and that’s where our show comes in,” Lim said. “It’s just an hour and a half, but it’s filled with great entertainment that it is worth the value and time to see the types of people we have on campus.”

Tickets can be purchased online or in the Campus Center weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
