ACU Dining Services made a special appearance Feb. 5 in Gardner Hall for an all-hall event in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Every month, Dining Services conducts a themed meal to showcase holidays, campus events, announcements and customer appreciation.
Students are given the chance to get involved in fun activities and enjoy specialty menus. Past themes include Back-to-School Bash, Christmas Fun, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Duck Dynasty, Earth Day Celebration and Summer Splash.
This month, they set up a buffet in Gardner Hall’s west lobby where residents and staff from freshman halls congregated and ate desserts.
“They brought a lot of desserts, such as chocolate-dipped strawberries, macaroons and creme brulee, and did a culinary demonstration showing how to make bananas Foster,” said Nicole Kass, resident assistant in Gardner Hall.
Kass, sophomore nursing major from Universal, gathered her residents to attend the event and celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“I enjoyed it; it was really nice and a bit crowded, but it was totally worth it,” said Bradley Weast, a resident of Gardner Hall.
Weast, freshman biology major from Edmund, said she thinks the event helped the residents in her hall bond.
“I got to see a lot of people I don’t normally see on a daily basis,” she said. “It was really nice to just take a break from studying and enjoy fellowship and food.”
Kass said residents of Gardner gave a lot of positive feedback from the event.
“The residents enjoyed the event and the desserts,” she said. “My favorite parts were the chocolate-dipped strawberries and just spending extra time with my residents.”
Residents and staff of Gardner also said they enjoyed the opportunity to have fun socializing while eating desserts proving the all-hall event was a success.
“It was a hall event that was easy for our staff to have because ACU Dining Services did a good job putting it together,” Kass said. “I think they should definitely consider doing this at least once a year, if not more, because the food was actually good, and it allowed the residents to spend time together.”
Staff of Gardner Hall said they were thankful for the event and hopes to see it take place again.
The next themed event will be on St. Patrick’s Day in The Bean.
