Campus Activities Board to host Dead Day event

December 4, 2015 by Michaela Kasselman

Free food, live music and a stress-free environment are included in the Dead Day event the Campus Activities Board and Students’ Association will host at Frontier Texas Monday from 5-8 p.m. in hopes of giving students a study break.

“This will be a free event for students on Dead Day to celebrate the conclusion of the semester and also help clear your minds as you prepare for finals,” said Tom Craig, director of student activities and productions. The board decided to call the event Winter Fest.

Live entertainment will take place on the parade grounds with limited seating, so blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Entertainers include students Lane Luttrell, Jake Rosser and Wes Robbins. The sets will begin at 5:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“It will be a carnival-type atmosphere,” Craig said. “You can relax and take a break from studying which we know everybody will be doing that day.”

Food will be catered by The Farmhouse and will include a chili bar with toppings, mini pies and hot beverages. Frontier Texas will also be open for touring.

“This is the kind of event where we hope students will take the opportunity to relax for a little bit; to take a couple hours out of their day to eat something good, clear your mind, relax with your friends and then go back to studying to prepare yourself for the finals that will be coming in the next few days,” Craig said.

Students can drive themselves and park for free, or a shuttle service will be provided for transportation to and from the event.

“If we have students who do not have access to vehicles, it will be a great opportunity,” Craig said. “We’ll pinpoint two pick-up and drop-off destinations: one near the women’s residence halls and one near the men’s.”

CAB and SA hope to rejuvenate students through Winter Fest so they are not worn down by studying.

“Obviously on Dead Day, the goal is to prepare for finals,” Craig said. “But we know it’s hard to sit and study hour after hour, so this is just a small break in your day to take a break and then go back to studying and refocus.”

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
